How to Get to Asakusa from Tokyo Station

I will introduce the way to go only by using subway, while showing detailed video.

How to Go by Train

There are 2 recommended ways to go by train.

◆Walk along to Otemach station from Tokyo Station. Then, use the subway

◆Take either JR(Japan Railway) Keihin Tohoku Line or Yamanote Line to Kanda station. Transfer to Ginza Line(Tokyo Metro) from Kanda to Asakusa.

As above, there are 2 ways

Here, I will show you the way to go only by using subway in detail.

How to Go Only by Using Subway

If you come to Tokyo by Shinkansen,
this is the way to walk to Otemachi East Ticket Gate of Tozai Line via Nihonbashi-side Exit.

How to Walk to Otemachi(Tozai Line) from Tokyo Station

If you come to Tokyo by Shinkansen,
this is the way to walk to Otemachi East Ticket Gate of Tozai Line via Nihonbashi-side Exit.

When you arrive at Tokyo by Tokaido-Shinkansen

  • Go towards the first car(Car No. 16).
  • Go down the stairs.
  • You cannot transfer to JR local lines from this Nihonbashi-guchi Ticket Gate.
  • Exit the gate and turn left.

When you arrive at Tokyo by Tohoku・Hokuriku・Joetsu Shinkansen

  • Go towards the last car (in the direction of Ueno station)
  • Exit the gate and turn left.

In this case, the number of the cars is different for each train.
However, getting on the last car is convenient.

Go to Nhiohbashi-side Exit

How to Get to Otemachi Station of Tozai Line (Tokyo Metro) from Nhonbashi-side Exit

This is the way to go out of Nihonbashi-side Exit and walk to Otemachi East Ticket Gate of Tozai Line.

  • Go out of the Nihonbashi-side Exit.
  • There is a bus terminal outside.
  • Walk along on the left side.
  • In front of the avenue, you will see the subway entrance.
  • Go down the stairs.
  • At the end of the stairs, turn right.
  • Turn left and walk along the underground passageway.
  • Walk for about 1 min.
  • On the right side are Ticket Gates.
    On the left side are Ticket Vending Machines.
  • It takes about 6 min to walk from Shinkansen platforms.

However, Nihonbashi-guchi Ticket Gate for Tohoku・Joetsu Shinkansen(JR East) has limited opening time.
You can use the gate between 8:30 and 19:30 only.

If you come to Tokyo by these Shinkansen except above mentioned time,
go to JR local lines hallway through Shinkansen Central Transfer Gate,
and then go out of the station through Yaesu North Exit ticket gate.

How to Get to Otemachi by Underground Passageway

We have just introduced the way to go out of Nihonbashi-side Exit.
In addition, there is another way to walk to Otemachi by underground.

Just before getting out of Nihonbashi-side Exit, go down the stairs on the right-hand side.
Then, you could go to Otemachi station of Tozai Line by underground passageway.
The entrance of the stairs is under the coffee shop “Starbucks”

Take Tozai Line and Transfer at Nihonbashi

Trains bound for Nishihunabashi, Tsudanuma or Toyokatsutadai arrive at Track No 3.
You can take any train.
The next stop is Nihonbashi station for 2 min ride.

Transfer to Ginza Line(Tokyo Metro) at Nihonbashi station.

How to transfer to Ginza Line

It is convenient to get on Car No. 2 of the train (the first car is No.1)

  • Once getting off the train, take the escalator.
  • Go up the long escalator.
  • You will see the signboard at the top of the escalator.
  • Go over Track No. 1
  • There is the stairs to go to Track No. 2
  • Go down the stairs, you will find Track No. 2 of Ginza Line.
  • It takes 1.5 min to transfer.

How to Get to Kaminarimon Gate from Asakusa Station(Ginza Line)

Asakusa is the terminal station of Ginza Line.

  • Trains stop at either Track No.1 or No.2 .
  • It is convenient to have gotten on Car No. 4 or No. 5.
  • The first car is No.6.
  • When you arrive at Track No.1, walk up the stairs from the platform.
  • At Track2, turn left and go to the ticket gate.2
  • Exit the ticket gate.
  • Following the signboard, head towards Exit No.1.
  • Go up the stairs
  • Coming up to the town street , go straight about 50M.
  • You will see the < Koban > (police box) over there.
  • Kaminarimon Gate is there , right next to Koban.
  • Behind Kaminarimon Gate is Nakamise-dori (shopping street)
  • It takes 3min to walk from the station to Kaminarimon Gate.
